THE WICKED WITCH OF THE WEST
registered name Wicked Witch of the West
call name Witch-Witchy
age two by a A.P Indy out of La Ville Rouge a Carson City mare
gender female
experience five starts five wins over dirt and polytrack at 1 1/16 or 1 1/4. she ran away with the wins in under matched fields every time breaking her maiden with a 12 length victory. three of her five starts were graded races.
temperament Witch is high strung and goofy. She doesn't take many things seriously and has been labeled a problem horse by her trainer. Training is hard as she finds it amusing to throw her rider and swerve around the track. She is a born alpha horse and has to be in charge all the time. She is always pushing other mares around and running in the lead of her paddock mates. She hates being inside a stall and destroys the place by kicking out boards and cribbing on the wood. Witch also craves attention, she is like a puppy dog and will stare with those big black eyes until someone comes over to pet her. She is headstrong and needs a firm hand on her or she will take advantage of you. She also has the tendency to be a little mareish so its smart to be careful when entering her stall or approaching her. She is pretty much a big goofball and is generally pretty sweet but like with any horse, caution is a good idea.
history Witch was a home bred filly whose owners were looking for a horse that could become their retirement project. The man had trained horses to race for many years but never owned his own horses. After purchasing a broodmare he decide to put breed her to the famous A.P Indy and take a chance at racing. Witch was born all black with no white marks. A grandchild started calling her Witch and the name stuck and soon became Wicked Witch of the West after the character in the Wizard of Oz. As a yearling Witch started her training and was quickly labeled problematic, as the training sessions never got far because she kept dumping her riders the moment she grew tired of being ridden. She was fast and was pulling sizzling workouts but only when she wanted too. Her maiden was a claimer but nobody put claims down after watching her work-but boy were they sorry when she ran away with the mile and a quarter race with a twelve length lead. A month later she was entered into an allowance and once again ran away with the race with another 10 length victory. She was entered in a grade three race at a small track on the east coast and once again ran other horses into the ground with a whopping 14 lengths. Her next start was harder a grade 2 stakes where she once again blew everyone away with a 7 length victory. While training for her next race she was working on the rail and was checked by another horse going by and flipped over the rail, luckily not injuring herself but crippling her exercise rider. She has been skittish of the rail ever since. Finally she was entered in a Grade 1 BC Prep, it was there that she was finally matched and won by only a nose in a five horse photo finish with her on the way outside. Only a month after the race her owners died in a car crash. Their family didn't want to take on the expenses of owning a race horse and decided to sell her. Trainers didn't realize that she had always been a problem training and thought she was too much work so she passed around from auction to auction finally ending up here.
height 15.3hh
weight 1300 pounds- i have no idea
appearance Witch is a 15.3hh dark bay mare with black tips. She has well defined muscle and short mane and tail. Her tail doesn't seem to want to grow very long, not past hocks and her mane needs to stay short cause of racing.
-----------------------------
Witch threw her head back as the lead went taunt. She was finding it hysterical that stupid two legs were trying to force her into a dark trailer. It wasn't that she was afraid, but she didn't like to be force to anything, she would do it on her own time. Everyone knew that, except for these stable boys. The dark horse whinnied loudly at the boys and moved forward a few steps to trick them into thinking she was moving in, before rocketing backwards. The lead fell out of the boys hands and the bay darted away. Yelling followed her as she ran down the shed row at full speed, jumping over a wheel barrow and dodging around grasping hands. This was all in good fun, she wasn't mad or anything. The filly slid to a stop in front of the grain and stuck her nose in, chomping away at the o so delicious kernels ignoring the sound of thudding footsteps and of angry cries. Once again the lead went taunt and she charged forward at the man who grabbed it hoping to get him to scare backwards. Didn't happen. The man only hit her in the nose with the lead and tightened his hold until his hand was under her chin. Snorting with disgust she pulled back only to hit the shank sharply and finally give in. There was no use trying anything with this guy.
Witch followed him reluctantly into the trailer stomping up to it and sighing as she passively entered. The boys looked at him in awe and apologized as the man yelled at them for being stupid. The young horse whinnied in agreement with the man as the hatch was shut. Twenty minutes of bumps went by before she emerged into a dark barn that smelled of horses, cows, dust and people. The filly snorted and trotted forward a few steps interested in her new surroundings. Urgent cries came from people in suits and her directing was sharply changed and her lead handed off to a sharp smelling guy in a hat. The dark horse lipped at his suit only to be gently swatted and lead into an arena with turf and bright lights. Held at a squared halt the announcer went over the loud speaker explaining her breeding, age, race experience and then her 30,000 dollar price as a bargain for such a great horse. Little white things lifted into the air and flashes went off.
Witch was lead out about fifteen minutes later into a cramped standing stall to wait for what she did not know would be her new owner.
