The bay filly was led into the ring, accompanied by two grooms. One walked by her side, giving her a smack each time she acted up. The other, who was taller and more muscular, held onto her lead shank. A chain was over her nose, and each time she tried to bolt or dance around, he tightened his grip, making the chain tighter. This, of course, only made the filly more upset. Tossing her finely shaped dial a few times, she broke into a nice, extended trot and proceeded to drag the handler around the ring. Unlike most fillies, Callie had a muscular build, almost identical to a colt's build. Other fillies were slimmer, with less build. Callie was also quite small, but she was still growing. The handler dug his feet into the ground and snapped the lead shank a few times, finally drawing the playful filly to a halt. With an angry snort, the filly spun around and clamped her ivories onto her handler's arm.
In response, the man shouted something at her and gave her a smack. The other groom came over and took a hold of her halter, forcing her to obey. The loudspeaker crackled to life as the auctioneer began speaking.
Well, folks, here's a cute little filly for you. Playful, too. She's fully trained. Never raced, but we'll start the bidding at ten thousand due to her bloodlines. A half sister to Smarty Jones and a granddaughter of Affirmed. Wow! She'd make an excellent broodmare, or a great racer if you can find a jockey she can trust. Very well built, with lots of energy, stamina, and speed. Do I hear $10,000? She's well worth it!
