Welcome all, to the Preakness Stakes! This is the second race of the three that make up the Triple Crown. How exciting! The horse to watch is definitely Revved. This colt was the Derby winner, and also the favorite to win today. The last horse is loaded into the gate. 3.....2.....1...........AND THEY'RE OFF! Genuine Risk goes straight to the front of the pack, followed closely by Revved and Battle Cry. Calligraphy, the filly who took second in the Derby, is hanging back behind them. 3 lengths behind her is Saint Trenton. The colt broke badly from the gate, coming out with a stumble, but he seems to be OK. Wait a minute, what's this? Genuine Risk has been pulled up! What's going on, folks?! Even I don't know. Revved is 5 lengths ahead, then comes Battle Cry and Calligraphy, Battling it out for second. Saint Trenton is loping along a few lengths behind, taking it easy - but he can't do that if he wants to win. Revved can't be caught, he looks untouchable. But he starts to fall back! He must have burned out! Battle Cry and Calligraphy gallop down the track. It's just the two of them now. Calligraphy pulls ahead, and Battle Cry drops back just as Revved had. Both colts are still running strong but it seems they took the lead to early and gave to much speed. Here they come! LOOK! Saint Trenton is eating up the track, inching closer and closer to Calligraphy! He must have stayed back to preserve energy! The two horses gallop across the finish, and it's too close to call! Battle Cry crosses third and one length behind is Revved, looking pretty tired! What an unfortunate event for our champ! No Triple Crown Winner this year, I'm sorry to say. Now let's see that photo. CALLIGRAPHY! THE FILLY WINS BY AN INCH OR TWO! Amazing. You've just seen one of the best races ever! And an amazing comeback by Saint Trenton, the long shot in the field. Genuine Risk seems to have been injured. The track vet is out with her now. How unfortunate for such an excellent filly. A sad day in racing history. But also a historic one!
1st Place: Calligraphy $800,000 and 150 EP. 2nd Place: Saint Trenton $500,000 and 75 EP 3rd Place: Battle Cry $300,000 and 50 EP 4th Place: Revved 25 EP 5th Place: Genuine Risk 12 EP
